Beschreibung||swisspeace is a practice-oriented peace research institute. swisspeace contributes to the improvement of conflict prevention and conflict transformation by producing innovative research, shaping discourses on international peace policy, developing and applying new peacebuilding tools and methodologies, support-ing and advising other peace actors, as well as by providing and facilitating spaces for analysis, discus-sion, critical reflection and learning.
To reinforce the Mediation Program, swisspeace is looking for a:
Mediation Program Officer (80-100%)
Starting date: 1 January 2020 (or by agreement)
The swisspeace Mediation Program supports ongoing mediation, negotiation and dialogue processes and conducts mediation-related research projects. It provides training and coaching for mediators, diplo-mats, UN staff, peacebuilding practitioners and representatives of conflict parties, and brings together stakeholders in peace processes by creating opportunities for dialogue. It cooperates closely with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, the EU, the UN and partner organizations across the world.
Support dialogue promotion and peacebuilding activities in Central and West Africa in cooperation with our partners
Travel regularly to Central and West Africa, in particular for mediation and dialogue support, training and outreach to civil society
Contribute to building networks of civil society representatives active in dialogue promotion and peacebuilding in Central and West Africa
Conduct other mediation support activities and practice-oriented research
Manage projects and complete administrative and logistical tasks related to project implementation
Contribute to training courses run by swisspeace
Masters’ degree in a relevant discipline (international relations, political science, social sciences or similar disciplines)
3-6 years of work experience, including experience in the areas of peacebuilding, civil society partici-pation and mediation/dialogue. Field experience is a strong asset
Excellent spoken and written French and English; German and other languages are assets
Good knowledge of Swiss foreign policy as it pertains to peace promotion; experience working for/with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in peace promotion is an asset
Central and West Africa context knowledge
Ability and willingness for frequent international travel, including to conflict countries
An explicit team player with an ability to deliver high-quality results under tight deadlines
